Tips & Advice for New Clients
So, you’ve booked your first electrolysis appointment—congratulations! 🎉 Whether you’re looking for smooth skin on your face, bikini line, or anywhere in between, you’ve taken the first step toward permanent hair removal.
At The Sardis Electrolysis Lounge, we want your first treatment to be as comfortable and effective as possible. Here’s everything you need to know before you arrive.
1. Let Your Hair Grow (Just a Little)
For electrolysis to work, we need to treat the hair at the root. That means there needs to be enough hair visible for the probe to be inserted into the follicle—ideally about 1–2 mm above the skin.
Avoid tweezing, waxing, or threading for at least 2–3 weeks before your appointment.
Shaving is fine up until 2–3 days before your session.
2. Skip the Caffeine Beforehand
Caffeine can make you more sensitive to discomfort. If you can, avoid coffee, tea, and energy drinks for at least a few hours before your treatment. Instead, stay hydrated with water.
3. Come With Clean, Product-Free Skin (If You Can)
Lotions, creams, sunscreen, and makeup can interfere with the treatment process. Please arrive with clean, dry skin in the area being treated if you’re able to. If you’re coming straight from work or errands, we can clean the area for you.
As part of our Fraser Health–required protocol, we clean the skin with 70% alcohol before your treatment to ensure it is fully sanitized for your safety and comfort. (This does not apply to numbing creams—those can remain on for your arrival.)
4. Stay Comfortable During Your Treatment
Most clients are pleasantly surprised at how tolerable electrolysis feels—especially with today’s modern equipment and techniques. If you do notice a bit of sensitivity, there are easy ways to make your experience even more comfortable:
Try a numbing cream – Applying one about 30–60 minutes before your appointment can take the edge off. We carry Zensa in-studio, which is our favourite for this purpose.
Rest and hydrate – A good night’s sleep and drinking water beforehand can help your skin feel its best.
Breathe and relax – Gentle, deep breaths help you stay calm and comfortable throughout your session.
5. Wear Comfortable Clothing
If we’re working on your bikini line, underarms, or legs, choose loose, breathable fabrics to avoid irritation after your appointment.
6. Know What to Expect Afterwards
It’s normal to see slight redness or swelling in the treated area for a few hours afterward.
Avoid heavy sweating, swimming, or tanning for 24–48 hours.
Skip harsh skincare products (like retinol or strong exfoliants) until the skin has fully calmed down.
Apply a cool compress or soothing aloe gel if needed.
7. Be Patient With the Process
Electrolysis is a fix—but it’s not a quick fix. Hair grows in cycles, so multiple sessions are needed to treat every follicle effectively. Your electrologist will recommend a schedule tailored to your goals so you can enjoy long-lasting, smooth results.
